Being 23 years old in a few more months, well 4 more months to be exact, I'm starting to concern myself with getting WRINKLES! yes it seems ridiculous to be concerned with aging at 22, but you can never start taking care of your skin too young. So after researching the various creams, lotions, serums, goo and gunk that claim to prevent or repair your skin from the inevitable aging process, which we know every woman has these overflowing in her bathroom, I've found the most inexpensive, way to slow the process from the inside out!YOUR DIET! NUTRITION IS KEY!
The saying is you are what you eat right? and in your skins case, this is partially true! This seems impossible right? and No, I'm not saying this will prevent aging, or make your wrinkles disappear but your eating habits, specifically your consumption of Vitamin A,C, & E is crucial to your skins health and will help your skin stay younger looking and more resilient! Okay so let me break it down for everyone so this all makes sense. This is the boring part...Your skin is made up of three layers, LAYER #1) The Epidermis = The the Shield
The epidermis is the skin you see, the top outer layer. This is like your skins shield, forcefield, whatever you want to call it. This is the layer of skin that protects the other layers from being penetrated. It protects you from free radicals like pollution, sunlight and all those gross chemicals your exposed to as well as protecting your skin from infection. This layer could use a little help though! Vitamin E helps your skin fight against and keep out free radicals as it is an antioxidant. It also promotes tissue growth and speeds up the healing process as well as protecting against sun damage. Vitamin E relieves skin dryness and contains anti inflammatory properties (anti swelling).
LAYER#2) The Dermis = The Support or Structure
The dermis is the second layer of your skin. It holds your skin up! This is where collagen and elastin are found. They are what makes your skin plump, firm and flexible. This is the crucial layer of skin in the aging process because as you age it becomes weaker and less flexible. The little collagen and elastin fibres break down, thus causing sagging looseness and WRINKLES! Since Collagen gives skin its firmness and Elastin gives it stretch, it is crucial they stay nourished for healthy looking skin. Collagen and Elastin rely on water to stay moisturized and Vitamin C to stay nourished and encourage fibre growth. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights free radicals and pollution as well as has been proven to have protective properties against the damage of UVA and UVB damage, especially when combined with vitamin E and sunscreen. *** Just to note for all the smokers out there, I'm sure you've heard all the horrible side effects of smoking on your body, but here is a reminder! Smoking destroys vitamin c, thus destroying collagen, thus giving you premature sign of aging... WRINKLES!
Layer#3) The Subcutaneous Layer = The Base or Cushion
This is the layer of your skin that protects your organs. It cushions them, and gives shape to your body. This layer shrinks with age, which makes your skin thinner, and more vulnerable to damage. This layer along with the epidermis and dermis need Vitamin A for normal skin growth and development. Not to mention, Vitamin A also promotes the growth and vitality of bones, teeth, nails, glands, and hair. Vitamin A improves skins texture by reducing dryness and scaliness. It also REVERSES the signs of photo aging. This is an extra bonus for all those beach bunnies who lay in the sun all day or use tanning beds!
